Truck tires are expensive. Anybody who’s had to buy them recently knows this. When you’re not in the mood to drop hundreds of dollars on your truck needs, there’s got to be a better way. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for, and cheap truck tires will cost you later on.
Cheap truck tires and discount truck tires are not recommended for a couple of reasons. For one thing, they’ll wear out quickly, blow out and turn into a piece of old rubber on the side of the road faster than you can say, “retread.” But even worse, low quality tires will actually slow you down and put your life in danger.
Fuel efficiency is connected to tire treading and rolling resistance. This means that cheap tires actually cost you money because of the extra energy you have to use to keep them rolling. They’ll also put your life in danger; you need good traction to fight the elements, or else you could be rolling towards a major disaster – damage to your truck!
It doesn’t pay to buy cheap truck tires, but there are some easy and convenient ways you can save lots of precious dollars on buying them. Let’s call them “inexpensive” truck tires (or better yet – Deals!).
Buy Used
Lots of folks won’t even consider this, especially after what I said before. Why buy used tires that can blow out or cost you extra money? Well, one good reason is that there are plenty of hardly used tires out there that still have 50,000 miles to go on them.
You can get great tires used, it’s just a matter of knowing what to look for. Have a good look at the tires and check the treads especially. It’s best if they aren’t worn, but even if they’re worn a little bit evenly, that’s not a major problem. What you should watch out for is uneven wearing. This could mean trouble.
Also check for repairs. If used tires have had any repairs, you’re better off probably skipping them. You can find repaired tires that still have lots of life left in them, but it’s risky. Avoid tires with cracks, but lines are okay. Lines are just cosmetic; as long as it doesn’t go into the tire and make a crack, it’s okay.
Be sure to look at every part of the tire, not just the treads. Have a look at the sidewalls and everything else.
Discontinued Lines
Lots of manufacturers discontinue their lines as soon as they release a new one. They want you to buy the newest, best and baddest thing they have to offer, and they want to get rid of last year’s model as fast as possible. For this reason, they often run huge discounts on last year’s models.
What’s so great about the newest thing, anyway? Okay, so it’s got one more layer of Kevlar or something in it, and it’s designed so that you can drive it at the bottom of the ocean without any tire deflation, and maybe the treads are made even MORE interlocking… Okay, the best and newest is definitely better, but when you want cheap truck tires, check out last year’s models. They’ll still get you where you need to go.
Buy Online
That’s right, the Internet is for more than looking at celebrity bikini pics and online poker. You can buy cheap truck tires online! Internet auction sites like eBay and Yahoo Auctions carry truck tires, and you can get great deals. You can find used and discontinued tires, as well as other deals. Just make sure you’re buying from a legit seller.
You don’t want cheap truck tires, but if you want to save a few bucks on good, expensive ones, check out these options. Get some good used tires, or models from last year, and do your shopping online. It never hurts to save a few bucks!
